Bridge Hub

Bridge Hub is the Polkadot system parachain responsible for trust-minimized interoperability with external blockchains. It routes XCM messages between Polkadot and non-Polkadot chains, using light-client verification rather than trusted third parties. This design preserves the security guarantees of the relay chain while extending connectivity to networks such as Ethereum.

The primary bridge powered by Bridge Hub is Snowbridge, a trustless bridge connecting Polkadot to Ethereum. Snowbridge uses light-client and zero-knowledge proofs to verify consensus across both sides, enabling cross-chain asset and message transfers without intermediaries.

Where it fits: Bridge Hub is a system parachain that acts as Polkadot’s gateway to external ecosystems. It works alongside the core parachain infrastructure to extend XCM interoperability beyond the Polkadot network.
