Bulletin Chain

Bulletin Chain

The Bulletin Chain is Polkadot’s decentralized storage system, designed specifically for Product data. It is content-addressed and IPFS-compatible, meaning every piece of data is identified by its cryptographic hash rather than a location. This guarantees integrity and enables deduplication.

Storage is gated by an authorization model that enforces per-account quotas, preventing spam and abuse. For large payloads, the Bulletin Chain supports chunked uploads that split data into manageable pieces before reassembly. Stored data follows a renewal lifecycle — entries expire unless refreshed, ensuring the chain does not accumulate stale state indefinitely.

Where it fits: The Bulletin Chain is the persistence layer for Polkadot Products. Product bundles are published as content-addressed blobs here, referenced by .dot name records in dotNS.
