Elastic Scaling
Elastic Scaling allows a single parachain to use more than one core at a time for block production. Instead of being limited to one core per block, a parachain can allocate additional cores dynamically, enabling it to handle spikes in demand without changing its slot arrangement. Each additional core contributes to parallelizing the work of producing and validating the parachain’s next block.
The protocol uses the available core pool to assign extra execution cores to a parachain when needed. Core assignment is managed on-chain, and validators back candidates across multiple cores to support the same parachain. This flexibility makes resource allocation more efficient across the whole network.
Where it fits: Elastic scaling is an extension of the Agile Coretime model. It is especially relevant for high-throughput applications that need burst capacity for block space without securing dedicated cores full-time.
